Valiant Technology is calling for entries in an international competition to design a logo and a collection bin for e-waste recycling.

The logo is intended as a public-domain design, similar to the familiar möbius strip on current paper/plastic/metal recycling bins. 

The 4th Bin is to be the means by which e-waste is responsibly collected.

Our intent is to see a clearly labeled 4th bin placed centrally in every building in New York City, and eventually all across the country.

Competitors are encouraged to incorporate some form of electronic imagery in their E-waste logo. Logos can be of any size as long as they fit on an 11X17 (279mm x 432mm or A3 board). For the first round of submissions we ask that your logo be saved out in .jpg format with a maximum file size of 4MB resolution should be at *72dpi. We may ask for a vector image and/or high-resolution image during the jury deliberation phase and for publication. Please have your logo ready to be submitted in a timely fashion in these formats if asked.

Competitors are urged to be as creative as possible while recognizing the need for security, durability, efficient use of space, and taking into consideration size constraints, maintenance and available technology. Designs can be presented in either 2D or in 3D, and sketches are acceptable. For the first round of submissions you will have the ability to upload two (2) 11X17 (279mm x 432mm or A3) boards in .jpg format. The maximum file size per jpeg should not exceed 4MB resolution should be *72dpi. We may ask for a vector image and/or high-resolution image during the jury deliberation phase and for publication. Please have your Bin designs ready to be submitted in a timely fashion in these formats if asked. Physical models and renderings (including videos) may be requested by the jury and/or competition committee for presentation, but will not be accepted in the first submission phase.

Designs should be resistant to corrosion produced by water and potentially leaky batteries. All elements must be composed of materials that are non-combustible and all finishes should be non-flammable. Competitors are also encouraged to incorporate environmentally sustainable materials.
